Holiday List 2023 West Bengal Government
1881 (XXVI of 1881) in exercise of the power of interpretation of section 25, Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, Notification no. 20/25/56-pub(l) dated June 8, 1957, the Governor is pleased to declare the dates mentioned in List-1 below as public holidays for the year 2023.

2. The Governor is pleased to announce that the offices under the Government of West Bengal, except those at Calcutta, Calcutta and the offices of the Collector of Stamp Revenue, shall remain closed on the days specified in List-II which are not publicly announced . . Holidays in 2023.
3. The Governor is further pleased to announce that in the year 2023, the days mentioned in List-III may be considered as sectional holidays for the workers in the various areas mentioned on that date.
April 1 (Saturday) (Only for Banks) (Note: Only government offices which do not observe Saturday as a full holiday including treasuries, sub-treasuries are open).

2. In 2023, the following festivals/events occur on Sundays, which are public holidays under the N.I. Law and are therefore not included in the list:

1) If more than one weekly holiday or non-working day or holiday falls on the same day, the first declared holiday, if any, is not allowed as a substitute.
2) If there is a change of moon on the days of Fitr Bajram, Id-ud-Joha, Muharrem, Fateha-Duwas-Taham, Shab-e-Bharat, instead of the day that was announced as a Festival holiday. when the holiday is declared, another day will be given to observe the festival

3) A change of date for the aforementioned events may be necessary at very short notice. In such circumstances, T.V. / Notification will be made by A.I.R. / Gazettes and Heads of Departments / Offices of the State Government may act on such notifications without waiting for the order to change the date.
