Ap Summer Reading List 2023 – There are many good books that elementary school and kindergarten students will enjoy. We encourage parents to read to their children regularly during the summer months and remember that children of this age enjoy reading pictures and words. They can also come up with their own stories to go with the illustrations. Preschool and kindergarten students don’t need to read a certain number of books or keep a reading list. Distributing books is our only focus this summer.

The summer slide is real. Research shows that children who are out of school in the summer actually read at a lower level in the first year of school than they did the previous year.
I don’t know about you, but my teacher’s heart is happy! I don’t want to think about the behavior of my students
So sending freshmen to the summer without the resources to continue their studies is a big mistake!
Summer Reading Assignments
Instead of sending out a book list or a large reading log, I’ve had great success setting my students up with a reading challenge.
I gave my students this reading test last year during one of our “off road” months. (I taught school for a year). Students love it and their parents too!
I’ve also heard that it’s not good to keep a “reading list”. Many parents tell me this lets their students know that “learning is everywhere.” THIS SITUATION!!!
Maine South High School
I’ve had such great feedback from families and students that I wanted to share it with you all!
Reading is everywhere! I don’t want my students to think the only time to study is 5 a.m., homework, or library time.
The goal of this challenge is to help students participate in learning outside of school. Then I split the page into two columns.
Nampa District’s Book Ban To Affect Ap English Classes, Along With School Libraries
The first page tells students what to study. So these things you can already do at home. You can even search and print some articles from the internet.
The second book shows kids all the fun ways kids can read. “Count to the pet” is a favorite. No surprises there. 😉 Studying in different places, for different people and in different ways turns what can be considered “work” into fun work!
When I present this challenge, I encourage my students to use it as a “starting point” for their summer reading. This is a starter list with lots of ideas. Once they’ve done all that, they can start their list of fun things to read and things to read!
